Eye Lid Surgery For Skin Creases Reformation / Double Eye Lid Surgery
Asian people may not be born with an upper eyelid crease (single eyelid). Sometimes, there can be excess skin which causes the lashes to point downwards and cause irritation and scarring to the eye.
A skin crease reformation surgery can be considered to address these issues at the same time. Incisional surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia with sedation and takes about 30 – 45 minutes.
A skin crease incision is made and excess skin and muscle removed. Special absorbable sutures are used to reconnect the muscle that lifts the eyelid to the overlying skin.
The downtime is about 2 weeks and post-surgery swelling can take around 3 months to settle. The risks of surgery include scarring, infection, bruising, asymmetry and a theoretical risk to vision from deep bleeding or infection.
‘Double’ eyelid surgery is cosmetic surgery designed to create a lid crease making eyes look ‘bigger and brighter.
‘Double’ eyelid surgery of the incisional variety provides a longer lasting effect compared with non-incisional surgery. The skin crease can be designed to have a nasal slant or parallel crease depending on the choice of the patient. It is performed under local anaesthetic with sedation and involves a downtime of 2 to 3 weeks with full recovery taking approximately 3 months.
Skin crease reformation surgery creates a ‘double eyelid’ appearance. It can be done as a primary procedure for cosmetic reasons.
